A non-invasive, innovative therapeutic technology – called IDD Therapy – may take the place of painful, costly, and the oh-so-frighteningly uncertain success of back surgery.

Back In Action Again

Dr. Joshua Cho grew up in Orange County, California.  He has definitely embraced the Southern California lifestyle and its pleasant weather.  An athlete himself, he appreciates how the weather encourages outdoor activities and exercise.

The ease of getting outdoors and working out, however, can tempt some to overdo it on their activities.  And, for whatever reason – overdoing it or making a sudden wrong turn – there’s always a risk of sports injuries.  As an athlete, Dr. Cho has focused his practice – O.C. Spine Center & Pain Clinic (O.C. for Orange County) – on sports injuries.

True to its Southern California setting, the O.C. Spine Center has a diverse patient demographic.  About one-third of the patients are Hispanic, and another third are Asian.  And this diversity is reflected in the staff as well – unique staff members with diverse backgrounds.

The O.C. Spine Center & Pain Clinic is thus able to provide a full spectrum of health care professionals, from a traditional pain medicine specialist to a physical therapist, a chiropractor, and an acupuncturist.  These full-time staff members are there for patients who come for treatment of their various painful conditions.

A firm believer in continuing education, Dr. Cho attends national and international meetings related to his practice and his focus on sports-related injuries.  At one such meeting, he heard about Decompression Therapy and specifically about IDD Therapy (Intervertebral Disc Decompression Therapy).  When he returned to his office he researched the subject and learned more about decompression.  He visited the various manufacturers of equipment and, after careful review, made his decision to work with Accu-SPINA and IDD Therapy in his practice.

Because the O.C. Spine Center staff members have such a broad range of training and abilities, Dr. Cho has always taken pride in being able to provide the Center’s patients with what they need the most.  The focus isn’t on what the staff can do best for the patients, but on what is best for the patients.  This focus and philosophy gave him and his staff a high level of confidence in treating their patients with low back pain.

Now, with the addition of IDD Therapy in the practice, they are experiencing a success rate of better than 90 percent for patients with low back pain!  Because of such outstanding results in non-surgical treatment for herniated discs, they offer their patients the option of the SurgiGrant Program.  Under this program, the patient undergoes treatment at the O.C. Spine Center for the duration of the treatment protocol.  If, after the protocol is completed, the patient is not satisfied with the result of the treatment or requires surgery, the patient is referred out; surgery is arranged at the facility of the patient’s choice, with the insurance co-payment covered by the O.C. Spine Center up to $4,000.  It is their belief and confidence in their non-surgical treatment protocols that makes the SurgiGrant Program possible.

What people do not realize until they experience it at first hand is the profound, residual effect of chronic back pain.  It’s like a perpetual dark cloud that can subtly and progressively degrade your quality of life.  It can affect your mood, your sex life, your friendships, and your work and leisure.  Dr. Cho also knows, from the latest published medical studies, that surgery has been helpful in only one percent – one out of 100 – cases of low back pain.1 Some surgeries can even result in permanently debilitating conditions.

That is especially true in cases of herniated discs, which can also be thought of bulging discs.  They are deeply internal, involve the seeping of a gel-like fluid that protrudes against a nerve root in the spinal column, and can cause tremendous pain in the lower back.  Manipulation of the spine or other body parts doesn’t always address this problem.  IDD Therapy, on the other hand, is ideally suited to treatment of herniated discs.
